Mr. Barb Greve, M.Div.

BarbBarb Greve earned his Masters of Divinity at Starr King School for the Ministry in 2007. He currently serves as the Interim Director of Lifespan Religious Education to the First Unitarian Society of Newton.

Barb is a co-founder of TRUUsT (Transgender Religious professional Unitarian Universalists Together), where he continues to serve on the Steering Committee. He is also serving his second term as the President of the North Atlantic Regional LREDA Chapter.

Barb is a lifelong Unitarian Universalist. An institutionalist at heart, Barb enjoys board and committee work. A firm believer in the saving power of Unitarian Universalism, Barb yearns to share his religion with all he can. He draws much spiritual inspiration from the writings of Unitarian, Universalist, and Unitarian Universalist thea/ologians. He also finds inspiration in science fiction (Babylon 5 being his favorite source), nature, music, movies, and the brewing of beer.

Barb served as the Interim Director of Religious Education to the Unitarian Society of New Haven (August 2007 – June 2009). From September 2006 – July 2007 he served as intern minister to Arlington Street Church (Boston, MA) and Church of the Larger Fellowship, both of which are Unitarian Universalist congregations. From 1995 – 2005 Barb served as Program Associate in the Unitarian Universalist Association of Congregations’ Office of Bisexual, Gay, Lesbian, and Transgender Concerns. In that time Barb preached and led workshops on issues of sexual orientation, gender identification, race, and ability.

Barb has taught Religious Education classes for all ages and spent over 10 years advising Young Religious Unitarian Universalist youth groups. He collaborated on the creation of the UUA’s 2nd edition of the Welcoming Congregation Handbook and is co-author of Living the Welcoming Congregation. Barb is the publishing editor of Crossing Paths: Where Transgender and Religion Meet (UUA). He is also a contributing author in GenderQueer: Voices from Beyond the Sexual Binary (Alyson Press), Homosexuality & Religion: An Encyclopedia (Greenwood Press) and Women: Images & Realities, A Multicultural Anthology (McGraw Hill). Barb is an instructor with GOAL (Gay Officers Action League), New England.

Prior to seminary, Barb was an active member of his parish in Framingham, Massachusetts, where he served two years as their Board Chair, as well as served on Ministerial Search Committee, the Social Concerns Council, Welcoming Congregation Committee, the Worship and Arts Council, and co-founded and served on their Lay Worship Leader Group. Barb is sponsored by the First Parish in Framingham as a candidate for the Unitarian Universalist ministry.

He is a godparent, a classical bassist and a home brewer. Barb is a New Englander at heart.
